The story begins in a rural village where on birth of a baby girl, the unhappy father drowns her in a bowl of milk. Matrubhoomi - A Nation Without Women Hindi movie takes a turn when a wealthy farmer marries his five sons to a poor girl, Kalki, after buying her from her father for mere five lakh rupees. All brothers and the father take turns every week to sleep with Kalki. On seeing that their wife is only affectionate towards the younger brother, the rest of the brothers kill the youngest in a fit of jealousy. Kalki tries to get a word to her father but he only asks for more money from her father-in-law for sleeping with his daughter. She even tries to run away but is caught.
