The 1980s was the time that Indian television was taking baby-steps into airing popular programs including serialised television dramas. This was before the time of satellite television when the state-owned Doordarshan reigned supreme. This series was aired on primetime, at 9PM each Friday.

The plot centers around a married couple and the brother-in-law. Renu and Ranjit Verma, and Renu’s unemployed, unmarried younger brother, Raja, who lives with them, often get involved into funny situations that form the premise of each episode.

The first season which included Shafi Inamdar as Ranjit was hugely successful. Then, the actor left the show. It was redesigned so that Ranjit is presumed to be working in London and later, Renu also joins him. The second season focuses more on Raja’s character and his love life.

The funny situations are created not only by circumstances in their own life, but also by the Verma couple’s willingness to help their neighbors. Ranjit’s boss, played by Tiku Talsania, also plays a major role in the series. Another actor, Satish Shah, dons different roles for different episodes.
